KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs released 17 players from their roster on Saturday, trimming the roster to the NFL mandated number of 53.
Among those released were veteran placekicker Ryan Succop, and 2013 draft pick in LB Nico Johnson. QB Tyler Bray, a second year player signed last season as a free agent, was placed on the injured reserve list with an ankle and knee injury. Bray’s status on injured reserves means that rookie draft pick Aaron Murray makes the final roster of 53, along with veterans Alex Smith and Chase Daniel.
Free Agent kicker Cairo Santos makes the final roster, as do four of the Chiefs’ eight draft picks from this past spring. The Chiefs open their 2014 regular season on September 7 at Arrowhead Stadium when they host the Tennessee Titans.
