LAWRENCE, Ks. — Walk-on kicker, Matt Wyman, drilled a 52 yard field goal as time expired to lift Kansas to a 13-10 victory over Louisiana Tech. The Jayhawks are 2-1 heading into a bye week.
With the KU offense stalling, it became clear the Jayhawks would have to win this one with defense and special teams. Both units stepped up and made big plays.
Louisiana Tech was leading 7-3 early in the fourth quarter and was looking to go up 14-3 when Bulldog quarterback, Ryan Higgins, was pushed out of bounds at the KU two yard line. The ball popped loose and rolled into the end zone for a touchback for KU. Jake Heaps led an eight play, 80 yard touchdown drive. His 22 yard connection with Jimmay Mundine tied the game 10-10.
Louisiana Tech took over with six minutes remaining in the game and marched deep into KU territory. Running back, Kenneth Dixon, was stripped of the ball inside the five yard line and it was recovered by Kansas University’s Keon Stowers.
The Jayhawks called time out with two seconds left, and Wyman’s clutch 52 yard field goal set off a wild celebration.
Kansas hosts Texas A&M on Saturday, October 5th.
