DESTIN, Fla. — The vote was unanimous among SEC athletic directors during the league’s annual spring meetings. The SEC has decided to hold the 2018 men’s basketball tournament in St. Louis, Missouri at the Scottrade Center.
“I would like to thank Commissioner (Mike) Slive, his staff at the Southeastern Conference and my league counterparts for unanimously approving St. Louis’ proposal to host the 2018 Southeastern Conference Tournament for men’s basketball,” Missouri AD Mike Alden said.
“I would also like to congratulate Frank (Viverito) and his team with the St. Louis Sports Commission for their efforts in bringing this premier college basketball tournament to our state. There were many worthy venues and cities competing for this championship, and I know our fans, our state and the city of St. Louis will help create a memorable experience for our student-athletes, coaches and fans traveling in for this great event. What an exciting day for our University and our state,” Alden continued.
In 2018, the Scottrade Center will host the Missouri Valley Tournament one week, and the SEC Tournament the next.
“Congratulations to St. Louis, the St. Louis Sports Commission and the great basketball fans in the city and our state for earning the right to host the 2018 Southeastern Conference Basketball Tournament,” Missouri Head Coach Kim Anderson said. “It’s an honor to have the SEC Tournament hosted in our state’s footprint for the first time and I know fans from throughout our league will be treated to a first-class experience and a great week of college basketball.”
