KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Sophomore guard Martez Harrison was named to the honorable mention Associated Press All-American team on Monday, making him the first University of Missouri-Kansas City men’s basketball player in the program’s history to receive such an accolade. The distinction means that at least one AP voter placed Harrison on the first, second or third All-American team.
The Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year led the league in scoring at 17.5 points per game, total steals with 60 and total assists with 129. He also shot the most free throws in the conference at 238, which ranked eighth in the nation according to a release from the athletic department.
Harrison helped the ‘Roos finish tied for second in the conference with the Grand Canyon Antelopes with an 8-6 record; UMKC went 14-19 including non-conference games last season.
He also helped UMKC capture a signature win against the Missouri Tigers in Columbia. Harrison scored a game-high 26 points in the 69-61 victory against Mizzou, making 15 of 16 free throws, and snagging three steals.
