AMES, Iowa — Shane Southwell’s three-point attempt in the final minute to tie the game at Iowa State was swatted away by Melvin Ejim, and the Cyclones held off K-State 81-75. The Wildcats lost back-to-back road games this week to fall to four-three in the Big 12. The victory for Iowa State (3-3) snapped a three-game losing skid.
The Cyclones drained eight of their 11 three-point attempts in the first half on their way to a 12-point halftime lead. It took less than seven minutes for the Wildcats to fight back and tie it up at 50-50. The Cyclones pulled back ahead by 11, only to see the Cats rally again. Will Spradling’s three tied it at 66-66 with five minutes to go. Georges Niang answered with a three to push ISU back into the lead for good.
Trailing 76-73 with 32-seconds remaining, Southwell rose up for three, but Ejim blocked it. The Wildcats lost at Texas Tuesday night on a buzzer-beater. K-state will be back at home to play Texas Tech on Tuesday.
