LAWRENCE, Kan. – A recent 34 to 14 win at home against Iowa State for the University of Kansas Jayhawks’ football team, following a seven game losing streak, was celebrated like a national championship by students and fans. In a celebratory fashion, fans tore down one of the stadium’s goal posts; a tradition that costs the university thousands each time it happens.

According to The Topeka Capital-Journal, KU’s interim football coach, Clint Bowen, says he doesn’t mind the celebration one bit.

“Obviously, we want to get to a point where winning games is expected and we don’t act that way,” Bowen said during the Big 12 teleconference, according to cjonline.com. “But the bottom line is, our program has not had success lately. For people to go out there and be able to enjoy a Kansas victory was good to see.”

KU said they pay about $7,000 for a pair of goal posts for the football field, and to replace just one goal post costs the school between $3,000 and $4,000.
