KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Step inside Kauffman Stadium on opening day and it won’t look much different than it did last fall when the last out was played. The stadium, entering its fourth full season following the renovations is adding a few touches, including a new public bar near the Diamond Club seats, but for the most part it’s getting spruced up for its All Star season.
Royals VP of Community Relations Toby Cook likens it to updating a home several years ago, but wanting to get it spruced up for company.
“The old barn still looks good as you say, it’s just getting cleaned u a bit for the arrival of some company from all over the world,” Cook said.
Cook says FOX and Major League Baseball will update and upgrade signage that will “wow” fans when they see it for the mid-summer classic. Otherwise, Kauffman is getting mostly fresh paint, some additional landscaping, and a real scrub down in time for the April 13 home opener.
Outside the stadium fans will also notice new parking kiosks at the entrances. And fans arriving from the west on I-70 must now exit sooner at I-435 for the Blue Ridge Cutoff or risk missing the sports complex and the first pitch! Don’t be late. 2012 should prove to be an exciting season with some off-field “construction” on the team itself.
