KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In front of a sellout crowd on Sunday afternoon, Royals prospect Wil Myers received a standing ovation in his first ever at bat in Kauffman Stadium.
Myers also played a big role in the U.S. Futures’ 17-5 rout over the World Futures team, finishing the game with two hits and three RBI’s.
Down 4-0 early, the U.S. staged a ferocious comeback to blowout the World team.
Managing the U.S. was none other than Hall of Famer George Brett, who encouraged the team’s tenacious approach before and after the blowout victory.
Royals pitching prospect Jake Odorizzi got the start for the U.S. team, giving up one run on one hit in one inning, a solo home run in the game’s second at bat by shortstop Jurickson Profar.
Royals prospect Yordano Ventura took the mound for the World team in the first inning, and didn’t allow any runs or hits.
A nine-run scoring spree in the sixth inning sealed the victory for the U.S. Tigers prospect Nick Castellanos crushed a three-run home run and was named the game’s M.V.P.
Orioles pitching prospect Dylan Bundy got the win.
