FORT WORTH, Texas — Led once again by senior guard Rodney McGruder, and the 16th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats handed the TCU Horned Frogs a 67-54 loss on Wednesday night at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
TCU (9-8, 0-4 Big 12) got off to a hot start, and took an 8-2 lead on a three-pointer by freshman guard Charles Hill Jr. The Wildcats quickly recovered, and took a 13-10 lead on a 3-pointer by junior guard Will Spradling with 10:13 to play. The Horned Frogs cut the deficit to 26-21 with 3:57 to play in the first half.
Kansas State (14-2, 3-0 Big 12) answered with a 10-2 run, and took a 36-23 lead on a dunk by senior forward Jordan Henriquez with 1:57 left. K-State led 38-25 at the break.
The Wildcats ran away with the second half. A 3-pointer by senior guard Martavious Irving pushed the lead to 58-38 with 10:38 to play. After trailing 67-42 with 6:19 to play, the Horned Frogs went on a 12-0 run to finish the game.
McGruder finished with 21 points. Henriquez added eight points and 10 rebounds. K-State shot 48% from the field, and 53% from three-point range. They edged the Horned Frogs on the boards 30-28.
TCU shot 38% from the field, and 30% from beyond the arc. Senior forward Adrick McKinney led the Frogs in scoring with 18 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
K-State will host the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday afternoon at Bramlage Coliseum.
