KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Andy Reid said on Monday afternoon that he hasn’t decided whether or not to rest any of his starters when the Chiefs close out the regular season Sunday at San Diego. The Chiefs are locked in as the fifth seed in the playoffs, so no matter what happens against the Chargers, they will start the postseason on the road as the five-seed.

“The obvious benefit is that you rest your guys and then you kind of get them back feeling a little bit fresher than they are at the end of the season,” said Reid. “You take the risk of the timing part of it. Sometimes that’s there, sometimes that’s not. But, those are the things that you have to evaluate.”

Reid called Sunday’s discouraging loss to the Colts a team effort. He blamed himself for not giving the ball to Jamaal Charles enough in the second half.

“Obviously 25 (Jamaal Charles) didn’t touch the ball much the second half and that’s my responsibility to make sure that within the realm of things, 28 plays that we had in that second half, that we give him more of a shot there than the six touches that he had,” Reid said.

The safe move would be to rest Charles and a few others against the Chargers. While it could be argued it’s a meaningless game, a loss would send the Chiefs into the playoffs with two straight losses and little momentum.
