CLEVELAND — It took a 14-inning marathon, but the Kansas City Royals finally snapped their six-game losing skid with a 7-6 win over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday night at Progressive Field.
Kansas City (71-87, 35-45 away) took a 6-1 lead on a three-run home run by right fielder Jeff Francoeur in the third inning.
Cleveland (66-92, 35-42 home) chipped away at the lead, and rallied to tie the game in the ninth on an RBI double by shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera.
In the 14th, Royals second baseman Tony Abreu hit the go-ahead RBI single.
The Royals used nine different pitchers, and managed to limit the damage for most of the night. The Indians went 3-21 with runners in scoring position.
Royals starter Jake Odorizzi (4.91 ERA) gave up one run on two hits in two innings, striking out one and walking three.
Luke Hochevar (8-15, 5.43 ERA) takes the hill against Indians starter Zach McAllister (5-8, 4.25 ERA) for a game three rubber-match on Sunday afternoon at Progressive Field.
