SURPRISE, Ariz. — Riding a strong start by Ervin Santana, the Kansas City Royals beat the Seattle Mariners 4-2 in a Cactus League showdown at Surprise Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Santana gave up one run on two hits in four innings, striking out seven and walking none.
Carlos Triunfel’s solo home run gave Seattle (11-7) a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but a pair of RBI singles by Billy Butler and Salvador Perez put the Royals up 2-1 in the fourth
Kyle Seager’s RBI single tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth, but later that inning, Xavier Nady put the Royals back on top with an RBI single to score Elliot Johnson. David Lough added an RBI double in the seventh to make it 4-2. Reliever Nate Adcock got the win, while Aaron Crow earned the save. KC outhit Seattle 9-4.
The Royals (14-2-1) maintain the best Spring Training record in baseball, and will try to continue their Spring success against the Cleveland Indians on Thursday afternoon.
