CLEVELAND, Ohio — Just when you think about giving up on them, the Royals give you reason to hope. After losing the series opener on Monday, and trailing 1-0 in the second game on Tuesday, the Royals slumbering offense woke up and helped beat the Indians in Cleveland 6-3 on Tuesday night.

Alcides Escobar and Mike Moustakas had 2 RBIs apiece. Escobar hit a solo homer and an RBI single, Moustakas had a two-run double. Royals starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie (14-10) got the win, while Greg Holland notched his 41st save of the season.

But the real pitching hero for the Royals was Luke Hochevar, who faced 5 batters over the 7th and 8th innings and struck out all 5. The win gives the Royals a 76-69 record on the season and with Tampa Bay and Baltimore also losing Tuesday night, the Royals now sit just 3 games back in the American League Wild Card race. The Royals and Indians close out the series at 11 a.m. CST on Wednesday morning from Progressive Field.
