KANSAS CITY, Mo. — True blue fans were playing the waiting game seven hours ahead of game time on Tuesday.
The parking lot at Kauffman Stadium doesn’t feel or look the same as it did for the early World Series home games. Perhaps that is tell-tale of the outlook of Royals fans, since the Royals sit on the brink of elimination from their quest for a world championship.
Around noon on Tuesday, the only sign of the Game Six festivities to come originates from the sports radio world.
Henry Lake and Jay Brinkley from 610 Sports have presented their show from the stage beside Gate D during every home game in the playoffs.
They’ve spent hours talking with Royals fans since that Game Five loss on Sunday night, and they say fans are upbeat and ready to win this evening against the Giants.
“They won Friday. It guaranteed them of coming back to Kansas City. So, there is that level of excitement, but it’s the difference between excitement and nervousness,” said Binkley. “I sense a lot of nervousness.”
“It’s being a typical Royals fan. You’ve been on that roller coaster all year; if they were going to get to the postseason, and how they were going to perform in the postseason. Right now, I think the typical Royals fan is like, ‘we can get over the hump, but there’s kind of that nervous energy right now,’” added Lake.
Game Six between the Royals and Giants begins Tuesday at 7 p.m. on FOX 4.
