KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Coming into this season, the Kansas City Royals were viewed as one of baseball’s fastest rising young teams by critics and fans alike. Currently, they can’t win for losing.
After a 4-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays (10-6, 6-1 away) on Monday night at Kauffman Stadium, the Royals (3-13, 0-10 at home) shattered a new club record for futility. They have now lost 10 consecutive home games, the longest home losing streak in the 43 year history of the franchise.
Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer tied the game at 1-1 after hitting his fourth home run of the year off Blue Jays starter Brandon Morrow (1-1, 3.71 ERA) in the second inning.
In the sixth, Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista blasted a two-run HR off Royals lefty Bruce Chen (0-2, 2.52 ERA) to give the Jays a 3-1 lead.
The Royals were 0-8 with runners in scoring position in Monday’s loss.
Royals lefty Jonathan Sanchez (1-0, 6.39 ERA) takes the mound against Cleveland Indians starter Derek Lowe (2-1, 3.50 ERA) on Tuesday night at Progressive Field.
After a nine game road trip, the Royals will return to the K next Thursday, May 3rd to host a four game series with the New York Yankees.
