MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Make it nine straight for the Boys in Blue! The Royals completed the sweep of the Minnesota Twins at Target Field on Thursday with a 7-2 win, continuing a hot, nine-game winning streak.

James Shields got the win for the Royals, with vital help from his defense. Lorenzo Cain came up big in the outfield taking a two-run home run away from Twin’s third basemen Trevor Plouffe. As a team, the Royals strung together 11 hits.

The Royals now travel to New York for a three-game series with the Mets and a chance to grab their 10th win in a row. The Royals stand six and a half games behind the division leading Detroit Tigers, and four games behind the Cleveland Indians who also won today, for the final AL Wild Card playoff spot.
