KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Sporting Kansas City ended their first game of the season in a 1-1 draw against the New York Red Bulls, but that didn’t slow down fans excitement.

Dozens of fans, like Andrea Carl, arrived to the stadium three hours before Sunday’s game started.

“The atmosphere, it’s so alive it’s so vibrant,” Carl told FOX 4 while waiting in line. “All the sudden everyone has pulled together and it’s all about sporting.”

Thousands of fans piled into Sporting Park, excited for what this season will bring. The franchise opened its 20th season in major league soccer Sunday.

“Feeling the energy of Sporting Park and I am ready to be back inside Sporting Park after a long winter,” said Logan Dawson.

Connor Williams said he is excited about some of the changes made during the off season.

“I’m excited to see all the new guys for in and I’m really excited to get the season going,” he said.

For many fans, Sunday was a day to commemorate the past 20 years of soccer and to look forward to another memorable year.
