KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Injuries were the hot topic of the day as the Chiefs prepare to meet the Denver Broncos in the chase to win the AFC West, round two. After starting the season 9-0, the Chiefs are coming off two straight losses, the latest coming Sunday at Arrowhead at the hands of the San Diego Chargers.
The Chiefs suffered two key injuries in the game: linebacker Tamba Hali suffering an ankle sprain, while fellow linebacker Justin Houston suffered an injured elbow. Both injures occurred in the second quarter of Sunday’s game.
On Monday, Head Coach Andy Reid said the MRI performed on Hali came up negative. Hali’s ankle injury is not as bad as originally thought, and it’s still unknown if he’ll be able to practice on Wednesday.
Houston, on the other hand, is a different story. There was too much swelling around the right/injured elbow to conduct an MRI, and it’s feared the elbow is dislocated. The status for both players and their availability for Sunday’s contest with Denver is unknown at this point.
Reid also said the prognosis for a number of other injured players seems positive: OG/Jeff Allen, groin strain; OG/John Asamoah, shoulder; DT/Mike Devito, knee; OT/Eric Fisher, shoulder.
